Merchant Agreement
Last updated 11 October 2026
This policy is a draft while it is reviewed by our lawyers. It describes how the service works today; the final version may change its wording.
1. How this agreement fits
This agreement adds to our Terms of Service for everyone who sells through a store on Stores. If the two disagree about selling, payments or deliveries, this agreement applies.
2. You are the seller
You sell to your customers in your own name. You are the merchant of record for every order placed in your store: the contract of sale is between you and your customer, and Stores. is not a party to it.
Your store must show how customers can reach you, and your own refund, return and shipping policies. New stores start with editable policy pages; you are responsible for what they say.
Invoices, receipts and packing slips your admin produces are issued in your store’s name. You are responsible for the prices, discounts and taxes you set and for registering for and paying any tax due on your sales.
3. Payments from your customers
Stores. never receives or holds your customers’ money. Online payments go through the payment gateways you connect (such as Safepay, PayFast, JazzCash or Easypaisa) under your own agreement with each gateway, and are settled by the gateway to you. The gateway’s fees, payout times, holds and rules apply to you.
Bank transfers go straight from your customer to the account you list. Your admin helps you match them to orders, but you decide when a payment has arrived.
Cash on delivery is collected by your courier and paid to you under your agreement with that courier. Your admin records remittances to help you reconcile them; it does not collect, hold or guarantee cash.
Refunds, chargebacks, payment disputes and failed or reversed payments are between you, your customer and your gateway. Where your gateway supports it, your admin can send a refund for you, on your instruction.
4. Deliveries
Courier accounts you connect are your agreements with those couriers. Bookings, labels and tracking in your admin are made on your instructions. Lost, damaged or returned parcels, delivery charges and courier claims are between you and your courier.
5. Order checks and fraud tools
Risk scores, cash-on-delivery confirmations and similar tools help you decide which orders to fulfil. They are aids, not guarantees: you decide whether to accept, confirm or cancel an order, and you carry the cost of orders that turn out to be fraudulent or are refused on delivery.
6. Messages to your customers
Order and delivery messages (e-mail, SMS, WhatsApp) are sent in your store’s name on your behalf. You may send marketing messages only to customers who agreed to receive them, and you must follow WhatsApp’s and the SMS provider’s rules. Message credits are charged as described in our Refund Policy and plan pages.
7. Your customers’ data
You decide why and how your customers’ personal data is used; we process it for you under our Data Processing Terms. Respond to your customers’ requests to see or delete their data — your admin has export and erasure tools for this.
8. What we charge
You pay us your plan fee and any message credits you buy. We do not take a commission or transaction fee on your sales.
9. Claims about what you sell
You are responsible for claims by customers, authorities or anyone else that arise from your products, your listings, your sales or your deliveries, and you will cover our reasonable costs if such a claim is made against us because of them.
10. Suspension and ending
We may pause checkout or suspend a store as described in our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy. Orders already placed remain between you and your customers, and you must still fulfil or refund them. You can export your orders and customers at any time while your account is active.
